I so believe this to be true. Dressing well makes you feel better, point blank. When you wake up in the morning and throw on lazy clothes, your attitude goes along with it. When you get up and spend some time getting ready, you feel great about yourself because you look great.
This goes for makeup also! When I get up and put on a cute outfit, but my face looks like I’m still asleep – I feel it. It’s like when I put on a cute outfit and makeup, it tricks my mind into thinking I’m ready for the day. Like on the weekends when you wake up and wear your pajamas all day – at the end of the day you feel lazy. Now, this is always nice every once in a while, but the real ‘making moves’ moment is throwing some clothes on.
I really try to get ready for work in the morning because it truly does make me feel like I’m ready to take on the day productively. I don’t always curl my hair, or put on eyeliner, but I do try to make sure I look presentable. Plus, when you look nice, you might get a compliment or two, which is sure to boost your mood!
I used to work from home and was told that getting dressed makes all the difference. It really does. There was a time that I would wake up, take the dog out, eat lunch, work, eat dinner, go to bed, then repeat – all in my PJs. I think it was a three-day span if I’m being honest. I felt like crap after a little while. Honestly, I was in awe that one could just sit in their same clothes for that long. Especially with how much I love fashion and shopping! I mean I know someone told me that I shouldn’t have done it, but I wanted to test out the theory and prove it to be true. Since then, I told myself I would actually try to look nice for work – even if I was working from home.
Now I work in an office, although our dress code is super casual. We are able to wear workout clothes – but they still ask us to wear *nice* workout clothes. Meaning no baggie t-shirts or workout shorts. I will wear workout clothes every once in a while, but I try to reserve those days for mornings where I am really tired or running behind.
Even if what I throw on is super easy, like a sweater, jeans, and the same boots I’ve worn all week – I’m still dressed and look nice! I’ve been trying to buy some good staples lately, like jeans, boots, and sweaters. It helps to have a uniform that’s not a uniform. Meaning that I know I’ll wear jeans, boots, and a sweater, but can swap them out for different items each day. I pretty much do the same thing in the summer, but with dresses and sandals.
Now that Spring is right around the corner, but it’s still cold out, I’ve been eyeing colorful sweaters. Something that’s still warm, but colorful. These are super perfect for the weather transition because I can wear them with jeans and a coat, or a skirt and booties!
I found this color block sweater (similar) at H&M. I was seriously so impressed. It is so soft and only $20, even though it feels like it could be $50 or more! The material is super nice and has withstood the wash perfectly fine so far. It also comes in another color block color set and in single colors! I’ve actually thought about ordering it in a few different colors just because it would also be such a perfect basic. I’ll probably go ahead and order the other color combo soon! I’m seriously so excited for spring sweaters because the colors also make me happy! I definitely have a ton of black stuff, but get too excited to break out those Spring pastels.
