Labor day weekend is right around the corner. I rented a house through Airbnb with a group of friends for the long weekend! We’re heading down to San Marcos to float the river. I know what you’re all thinking, *you were just there*. BUT, we only got to float the river for one day before the concert. So, I’m excited to go back and float the river for a full weekend with good drinks and even better company! Plus, now I have all of the essentials for a successful float.
With a long weekend ahead of us, I wanted to share some tried and true mixed drink recipes with you guys. If you follow me along on Instagram Stories, you know I throw themed parties here and there and have been traveling a lot. So, I’ve had a few different mixed drinks I’ve tried out along the way. Basically, these drinks summed up my summer drinking list.
Whatever your plans are, you’re sure to have a drink or two (unless you don’t drink of course), so give one of these a try. Let me know what your long weekend plans are and which drink you try out!
Port Douglas Punch
2 cups Smirnoff Vodka
1 cup Smirnoff Grape Vodka
1 cup Lemonade
3 cups Fruit Punch
1 cup Cranberry
3 cups La Croix
1/4 cup Lemon Juice
Typically when I’m making my punch, I eyeball it, but it pretty much goes fruit punch and La Croix over everything. I’ve made it with regular La Croix, lemon La Croix, and cheap seltzer water – they all work, but I prefer the taste of La Croix in mine! The main ingredient here is fruit punch. It seriously covers the alcohol way too well. The grape vodka is also key, as it’s a great way to add more liquor to the punch while still leaving it tasty. I’ve been told this was ‘satan’s juice’ once from a friend the next day. Let’s just say they were not feeling too hot, so be sure to take this one seriously!
9 Bud Light Limes
1.5 cup Vodka
3 cups Lemonade
3 cans Limeade
This one is a lake day drinking favorite from one of my friends. It’s basically a lake punch! To start off, cut up the lemons and place them at the bottom of your cooler. From there, just add the bud lights, vodka, lemonade, and limeade!
Austin Ranch Water
1 bottle of Tequila
6 Topo Chicos
Salt and Pepper Flakes
Now I’m more of a vodka person, but I figured I’d throw a tequila mix in for you all. This can be easily replaced with vodka though for all you vodka drinkers out there (that’s what I do)!
Sprinkle a mixture of the salt and pepper flakes onto a small plate. Pinch the lime around the rim of each glass, then dip the rim of the glass onto the salt and pepper flake mixture and twist. Now that you have a perfectly salted rim, pour a shot or two into your glass. Top it off with Topo Chico and add lemon and lime to taste.
The Tiki Hut
1-2 cups Vodka
1 Pineapple or 2 cups Pineapple Juice
4 sprigs of Mint
1/2 cup Sugar
To infuse the vodka, cut up pineapple and fill the vodka up to the top of the pineapple line, then squeeze your limes and add mint to the top! Let it sit for about 12 days!
Now if you’re not prepping for your Labor Day festivities 12 days in advance, a quick Tiki Hut cocktail will make you feel like you’ve been at the beach for days. Muddle the mint, 1 lime, and sugar in a bowl until the sugar has dissolved and the mint is fragrant. Mix in 1.25 cups of vodka, 2 cups of pineapple juice, and 1 lime. Taste, then add in more vodka depending on your preference!
On another hand, if you’re not in the mood for making your own cocktail, I’ve also outlined the best places to grab a drink in Dallas for your long labor day weekend! And, if you’re looking for the perfect summer outfit, this whole outfit is under $100!
