Alright Texas, make up your mind! Last week the highs were in the 50s, and it even snowed in Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. When I left for New York, the temperatures dropped to the 30s. Of course, the New York winter weather is still a shock to the body. It’s way too cold for this southern girl! When I got back to Texas Sunday night I left the plane at 60 degrees, and this full week is supposed to be in the 70s!
I’m not fully complaining (only a little bit) since I do love the warm weather. Plus, getting a break from the cold isn’t too bad, but this weather is messing with my body! I’ve been lathering lotion and chugging Emergen-C since I know I always end up getting dry and sick as soon as it starts getting colder. Anyone else along with me for the ride?
When it comes to getting ready to go outside in the cold, it takes a little bit of time to get the closet fully transitioned. It also mentally takes time to realize what I can pair with what again. So, when the weather flip flops, it can be hard to switch back into a warm-weather fall outfit mindset.
My advice for sticking to Fall fashion, while dressing for the warmth is to stick with darker colors. Black might be your go-to color already, and in that case, you’re pretty much set all year round. Then, pair your outfit with close-toed shoes, or booties! You’ve probably seen me wear these sock booties on repeat lately. They’re my favorite black bootie right now – and under $40! The heel is pretty tall but still comfortable, and I’m loving the ‘sock boot’ trend. They wear really well with skirts.
I paired this $10 off the shoulder short sleeve striped top, that’s also available in black, with this chiffon skirt – under $50! One of the things I love about this shirt is that it’s tight like a bodysuit, but it’s not a bodysuit. I love the idea of bodysuits, but the idea of it riding up, having an underwear line, and having to worry about clipping it shut, just annoys me. So, when I find a good tight shirt that’s perfect for tucking and/or wearing with skirts, I’ve got to share it with you guys!
I got this skirt from ASOS, one of my favorite places for finding cute skirts! This skirt is a chiffon material, and pretty lightweight, but could be perfectly paired with a sweater and boots if it got colder. For Texas weather (for the most part), I’m covered 3/4 of the year wearing it! I wear it on my hips, and it hits just about mid-thigh. For those of y’all that don’t know, I’m 5’4″, so the length is pretty normal!
If you guys aren’t expecting any heatwaves, try pairing this outfit with over the knee heeled boots and a long coat for a night out!
